Our Best Olympics Ever: 4 Silver<br />
and 1 Bronze Medals<br />
The Malaysian Olympic contingent received a thunderous applause and<br />
roaring welcome at the KL International Airport on August 24 as they arrived<br />
home from the Rio Olympics <strong>2016</strong> bringing home four silver medals and<br />
a bronze, the country's best record in the Games.<br />
The team of athletes included World Number 1 badminton player Lee<br />
Chong Wei and his team mates, doubles pairs Goh Liu Ying, Chan Peng<br />
Soon and Goh V Shem, Tan Wee Kiong.<br />
Malaysia’s diving team, made up of Nur Dhabitah Sabri, Cheong Jun<br />
Hoong, Ooi Tze Liang, Ahmad Amsyar Azman, Pandelela Rinong and<br />
shuttlers Tee Jing Yi, Vivian Hoo Kah Mun and Woon Khe Wei also arrived<br />
safely on the same flight.<br />
The welcome ceremony included a water salute as the plane carrying the<br />
athletes taxied to a halt to the disembarkation apron.<br />
Prime Minister, Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, who was present<br />
during the welcoming event at the Bunga Raya Complex, announced that<br />
each medallist would get an additional RM200,000 incentive from the<br />
government bringing the sum to RM500,000 for each silver medallist while<br />
the bronze medallist would receive a total sum of RM300,000.<br />

of the athletes and eager school children were also<br />
present at the event to meet the Malaysian team<br />
to express their support and sheer excitement.<br />
Of the medals, the silvers were bagged by<br />
badminton players Chong Wei, men's doubles<br />
team Tan and Goh, mixed doubles team Goh<br />
and Chan and the diving team comprising<br />
Pandelela and Cheong Jun Hoong for the women's<br />
Diver Nur Dhabitah Sabri<br />
synchronised 10m platform event. The bronze medal<br />
was won by cyclist Azizulhasni Awang who returned<br />
home from the Games on August 19.<br />
