TH223 Bureau of Sages: Incorporating Older<br />

Adults Voices Into Meaningful Research<br />

The Bureau of Sages is a research advisory group aiming to<br />

incorporate older adult voices into research. The symposium<br />

will consist of a few of the advisory members presenting insights<br />

from their experience in being part of the bureau. The project<br />

evaluator and director will discuss the bureau to date and outline<br />

steps moving forward. We will create a dialogue around the idea<br />

of participatory research and the need to include older adults<br />

that are typically excluded from research.<br />

TH225 On Being an Aging Woman: A Conversation<br />

Tapping into the lived experience of women of all ages provides<br />

insights into the aging experience. Brief opening statements,<br />

small group discussion and larger group conversation will create<br />

a senses of community among participants. Critical gerontology<br />

and feminist scholarship hold that critical knowledge is lost if we<br />

do not hear from the people whose lives are affected by the<br />

subjects we are studying. Each year this is one session where<br />

our voices are heard with intensity and passion.<br />

Community-Based Research Team to<br />

Promote Older Adult Health<br />

A primary aim within the Healthy Brain, Healthy Mind Interprofessional<br />

Research Collaborative is to develop a sustainable<br />

interprofessional geriatric research infrastructure across the<br />

state of Oklahoma. This presentation will highlight the challenges<br />

of establishing a community-based research team and<br />

outline steps to ensure success.<br />
