In fall 2016, Justice in Aging, in collaboration with leaders in the<br />
legal community, launched a centralized and integrated National<br />
Center for Law and Elder Rights (NCLER). The NCLER is a<br />
comprehensive center providing a strategic combination of<br />
training and assistance to state and local aging and disability<br />
organizations and legal services. This session will introduce the<br />
NCLER leaders and share insight about their new resources for<br />
the aging network.<br />

Mental Health and Aging Coalitions<br />

Mental Health and Aging Network (MHAN) and<br />
National Council on Mental Health and Aging (NCMHA).<br />
During a time of unprecedented systems change, partnership<br />
among diverse stakeholders is key to ensuring that the needs of<br />
older adults with mental health issues is effectively addressed in<br />
reform efforts. This session will feature a panel of state coalition<br />
representatives discussing strategies for improving planning,<br />
service delivery and funding for older adults in state’s efforts to<br />
redesign their health and behavioral healthcare systems.<br />

Exploitation of Elders<br />

This multidisciplinary panel will offer their 90 years of combined<br />
expertise and perspectives to examine five cases of financial<br />
exploitation. They will illustrate the ethical, aging and theoretical<br />
constructs in financial exploitation cases; the criminal justice<br />
responses; and the successes and failures of our current system<br />
of responding to financial exploitation.<br />

and Prevention of Elder Abuse and<br />
Neglect From a Spiritual Perspective<br />

Forum on Religion, Spirituality and Aging (FORSA).<br />
In a culture where elder abuse and neglect are submerged in<br />
silence, this workshop will speak to the role faith leaders and<br />
members of religious congregations could and should play in<br />
addressing this often hidden, but serious issue. The focus is to<br />
give clergy and lay volunteers tools to educate their communities<br />
and to provide support to recognize elder abuse, facilitate<br />
healing of trauma by healing of the spirit and ultimately prevent<br />
abuse and neglect.<br />

Analyze Data Outside Hospital Walls<br />

Hospitals and patients share the same goal: discharging directly<br />
home from hospitals. If this is to come to fruition in value-based<br />
care models, data collection shouldn’t end once a patient leaves<br />
the hospital. Learn how a combination of smart devices and<br />
human touch points in the home can be a low-cost solution for<br />
continued monitoring.<br />
