Last spring the oil offspring of Gasprom
commissioned the unique onshore loading terminal
“Gates of the Arctic”, designed for the year-round
shipping of the Yamal oil. As explained by Vadim
Yakovlev, to the end of the current year, Gazprom
Neft is going to involve some new tankers and to
2020 two ice-breakers, thanks to which the project
Novy Port will be able to reach 8 mln tones per
year. Currently onshore transport-technological
project systems is equipped with two multifunctional
ice-breakers Baltika and Vladislav
Strizhov, designed for year-round service of oil
loading terminal and liquidation of off-optimum
situations. For maintenance of the leased oil
tankers nuclear-powered ice-breakers of Atomflot
are used.
According to the plans, up to the end of 2017,
Vyborg Shipyard transfer to Gazprom Neft
according to the order of the company built two
multi-functional diesel-electric ice breakers of the
newest generation Aker Arc130A. The project of
this vessel was designed by the Finnish company
and successfully passed ice simulation tests in
the ice basin Aker Arctic in Helsinki and in the
conditions of the open water in VTT basin (in
the capital of Finland) and in the navigability
laboratory of Krylov Sate Research center in Saint
Petersburg. New generation ice breakers Aker
Arc130A with power 22 МW will have the length
122 m, the width of the main deck (including
fendering structures) – 26 m, the draft – 8 m. In
addition, specifically for the project Novy Port six
Arc7 tankers was built, which are able to operate
in challenging Arctic conditions and will not require
icebreaker escort while travelling along the route
Murmansk – Gulf of Ob.
Gates of the Arctic
Novoportovskoye is of the largest developing oil
and gas condensate fields of Yamak peninsula (on
the stock of the liquid hydrocarbons is the largest).
It is positioned in 30 km from the shore of Gulf of
Ob. Extracted stokes of C1 and C2 categories are
more 250 mln tons of oil and condensate and more
than 320 billion cubic meters of gas. Gaspromneft-
Yamal, JSC (till 2016 is Gaspromneft – Novy Port)
is the offspring of Gazprom Neft, built up in 2011/
specially for the realization of Novy Port project,
that is engaged of developing Novoportovsk
oil and gas condensate field (including the
infrastructure on extracting and shipping of
hydrocarbons).
The field was discovered in the mid-twentieth
century. In 1964-1970 it was drilled more than

expensive projects of Gazprom
Neft: the investment in the project
over the last three years exceeded
180 billion rubles, the volume of
overall investments until 2045 will
amount to 435 billion rubles. Total
tax revenues in budgets of all levels
from the project in this period will
amount to 1.7 trillion rubles.
Launching of the terminal Gate of
the Arctic on May 25, 2016, with
a capacity of crude oil is up to 8.5
million tons per year, allowed the
company year-round shipping of oil
produced in Yamal on the tankers
for further transportation along
the Northern sea route. This is the
only terminal in the world, located
in fresh waters in the Arctic Circle.
Sea terminal Gate of the Arctic
is a unique structure: designed
to work in extreme climatic
conditions, has a two-tier system
of protection and meets the most
stringent requirements in the field of
industrial safety and environmental
protection.
The terminal equipment is fully
automated and protected against
water hammer. A special system
allows to produce the disjuncture
between the terminal and the
tanker, keeping the tightness of
the releasable elements. The
technology of "zero discharge"
eliminates the ingress of any
foreign matter into the waters of
the Gulf of Ob, which is extremely
important to preserve the fragile
ecology of the Arctic. In addition,
