He also said: "Although '<strong>Ali</strong> was closer to the mth than his<br />

opponents, and although 'Ammiir was killed by the group that<br />

was in the wrong, as is mentioned in the text, we have to believe<br />

everything that came from Allah (g) and submit to the truth in<br />

totality; we should not follow whims and desires or speak<br />

without knowledge. Rather we should follow the path <strong>of</strong><br />

knowledge and justice, which means following the Qur'an and<br />

Snnnah. As for those who adhere to part <strong>of</strong> the truth and not<br />

other parts, this is the cause <strong>of</strong> division and disputes."605<br />

(g) 'Abdul-'Azeez ihn Bk said: "The Prophet (g) said in the hadith<br />

<strong>of</strong> 'Ammk "Ammir will be killed by the group that is in the<br />

wrong,' and he was killed by Mu'iwiyah and his companions in<br />

the Battle <strong>of</strong> Siffeen. Therefore Mu'swiyah and his companions<br />

were transgressors and were in the wrong, but their stance was<br />

based on their own reasoning, as they thought that they were<br />

doing right in seeking vengeance for the murder <strong>of</strong> '~thmh."~'~<br />

01) Sa'eed Hawa said: "After 'Ammir- whom the texts confirmed<br />

would be killed by the group that was in the wrong - was killed,<br />

it became clear to those who had been hesitant that 'ALi(4)<br />

in the right, and that fighting on his side was obligatory. Hence<br />

<strong>Ibn</strong> 'Umar expressed his regret for keeping out <strong>of</strong> it, and he felt<br />

sony for that because he had abandoned his duty, which was to<br />

support the true leader against those who had rebelled against<br />

from the words <strong>of</strong> the Messenger <strong>of</strong> Allah (&) to 'Am&, "You will<br />

be killed by the group that is in the wrong,';609 that what was meant
