'<strong>Ali</strong> ibn <strong>Abi</strong> Tilib 583<br />

3.12.7. The words <strong>of</strong> Ja'far ibn<br />

Muhammad (as-Ssdiq)<br />

It was narrated from 'Abdul-Jabb2 ibn 'Abbgs al-Hamadini<br />

that Ja'far ibn Muhammad came to them when they wanted to leave<br />

Madinah and said: "If Allah wills, you are among the righteous <strong>of</strong><br />

your city. Convey the message from me that whoever claims that I<br />

am an infallible Imam to whom obedience is obligatory, I disavow<br />

him.1138 Whoever claims that I disavow Abn Bakr and 'Umar, I<br />

disavow him." It was narrated from S%m ibn Abdullah ibn 'Umar<br />

that Ja'far said to him: "0 Saim, love them and disavow those who<br />

hate them, for they were leaders <strong>of</strong> guidance." Then Ja'far said:<br />

"Would a man impugn his grandfather? Ahu Bakr is my grandfather.<br />

May I never attain the intercession <strong>of</strong> Muhammad (g) on the Day <strong>of</strong><br />

Resurrection if I do not love them both and disavow those who hate<br />

them.,, 1139<br />

It was also narrated from Ja'far ihn Muhammad that he<br />

used to say: "Every time I hope for '<strong>Ali</strong>'s intercession for me, I also<br />

hope for the intercession <strong>of</strong> Abn B&r, for he fathered me twice<br />

[because the lineage <strong>of</strong> both <strong>of</strong> his parents went back to Ahu<br />

~akr]."<br />

It was narrated that he (may Allah have mercy on him) was<br />

asked about Abu Bakr and 'Umar, and he said: "You are asking me<br />

,,I141<br />

about two men who ate <strong>of</strong> the fruits <strong>of</strong> paradise. It was also<br />

narrated from him that he said: "May Allah disavow anyone who<br />

disavows Abu Bakr and ‘~rnar.""~~ Adh-Dhahabi said,<br />

commenting on this report: "I say: These words are narrated in<br />

mntawitir reports from Ja'far as-Sidiq; I swear by Allah that he was<br />

sincere in what he said and not hypocritical to anyone, may Allah<br />

(g) doom the Rzfidis. 9,1143<br />

These are the views <strong>of</strong> the Imams <strong>of</strong> Ahl al-Bayt, the good and<br />

pure ones, whom the R2iifidi Shia claim as their Imams and claim to<br />

love and support, and to whom they attribute their beliefs. This
