456 '<strong>Ali</strong>'s attitude towards the Khanjites and Shia<br />

means <strong>of</strong> which Allah (g) would benefit us. We do not have what<br />

these people say we do - and he pointed towards Iraq."677 It was<br />

also narrated that Muhammad ibn al-Hanatiyyah warned the Rififi<br />

Shia about what they were attributing to him <strong>of</strong> having special<br />

knowledge that the Messenger <strong>of</strong> Allah (g) had taught only to Ah1<br />

al-Bayt. He said: "By Allah, we did not inherit anything from the<br />

Messenger <strong>of</strong> Allah (&) except what is between the two covers<br />

(meaning the ~ur'an)."~~~<br />

It is narrated in mutawztir reports from Ah1 al-Bayt that they<br />

used to say to their supporters: "0 people, love us in accordance with<br />

the teachings <strong>of</strong> Islam, because the way you love us has gone so far<br />

that it shames Moreover, in the books <strong>of</strong> the RiX@ Shia<br />

themselves. there is a warning against going to extremes and a<br />

rejection <strong>of</strong> that by Ah1 alBayt. Al-Majlisi narrated, with his chain <strong>of</strong><br />

narration from '<strong>Ali</strong> ibn <strong>Abi</strong> Tilib (&), that '<strong>Ali</strong> said: "Beware <strong>of</strong><br />

exaggerating about us; say that we are slaves under the dominion <strong>of</strong><br />

our ~ ord."~~~ It was also narrated from '<strong>Ali</strong> (&) that he said: "0<br />

Allah, I renounce those who exaggerate about me just as 'Eesa ibn<br />

Maryam renounced the Christians. 0 Allah, humiliate them forever<br />

and do not support any <strong>of</strong> them."681<br />

Al-Kulayni narrated, with his chain <strong>of</strong> narration from Sadeed,<br />

that he said: "Abu Bu~ayr, Yahya al-Bazzir, Diwood ibn Katheer<br />

and I were in the gathering <strong>of</strong> Abu Abdullah when he came out to us<br />

in a state <strong>of</strong> anger. When he took his place in the gathering, he said: 'I<br />

am astounded by people who claim that we have knowledge <strong>of</strong> the<br />

unseen. No one has knowledge <strong>of</strong> the unseen except Allah (B). I<br />

wanted to hit my slave woman, so-and-so; she ran away, and I did not<br />

know in which room <strong>of</strong> the house she Al-Kashshi narrated<br />

that Ahu Busayr said: "I said to Abu Abdullah (~s): 'They are<br />

saying ...' He said: 'What are they saying?' I said: 'They are saying<br />
