The bar, Mike admits, is probably his personal favourite element
of the house, one which just had to be carried over from the
original home into its contemporary successor. Not only is it
a great social space, but also a testament to their design, as
it characterises what they loved about their old home, while
providing some modern flair.
Cathie, on the other hand, has a harder time isolating one
favourite room – she adores the formal living area, tucked into a
sunny nook of the north-facing home, but also loves the house's
sense of light, whether it be in the spacious kitchen, living and
dining area, or the generous master bedroom, which is complete
with en-suite and a walk-in wardrobe. The master bedroom
provides a clear view out to the Southern Alps and from the
street side; the Port Hills are clearly visible, making the view
“almost panoramic”, in Cathie’s words, as “every window gives a
different view”.
