Sarah, tell us about your background.
My fascination with travel first started when I was
12 years old and received a postcard of Big Ben from
my Aunt. I’ve being working in travel for 15 years
and am now the Owner Operator at House of Travel
High Street Lanes.
It’s lunchtime and you have an hour to
grab a quick bite in Christchurch, where
do you go?
With Madam Woo sharing our building, I’ve had my
fair share of Malaysian delicacies. It is hard to resist
when their honey and soy tossed squid is so divine
– their hawker rolls are hard to say no to as well!
Travellers love South East Asia
– why do you think that is?
A self-confessed foodie and avid traveller, Sarah Crowe from House of Travel’s High Street Lanes
spills the beans on her favourite local dishes and faraway destinations.
Guaranteed warm weather, amazing island
beaches, a vibrant culture and history, cheap
accommodation, fabulous eating options and of
course the endless shopping opportunities. Plus it’s
so much closer than you think.
What about a post-work dinner with the
House of Travel team?
When we celebrate in style, there is no better French
food in town than at St Germain. We are lucky to
have them on our doorstep. The 5-course surprise
menu with wine matches for $85 is a favourite.
Does the food there make you want to
visit France?
Yes. It certainly does. Food is just one of the
drawcards of France. I love booking my clients into
villas in Provence as they are so well priced and it’s
a great way to absorb yourself into the local culture.
There is nothing like going to a local French village
to buy your fresh produce, baguettes and brie, and a
lovely bottle of wine.
What’s the hot destination for 2017?
This year Vietnam has been really popular – and
for good reason too! This country is great for a
beach holiday, as well as a historical and cultural
adventure.
More and more families are also travelling here to
enjoy a value for money holiday that ticks all the
boxes; including a dine in the dark restaurant and a
great theme park in Ho Chi Minh City!
Are there any great travel deals coming
out that we should know about?
Absolutely. September – October is a great time
