A Broader Work<br />

"The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a<br />

broken <strong>and</strong> a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not<br />

despise. Do good in Thy good pleasure unto Zion;<br />

build thou the walls of Jerusalem. Then shalt thou<br />

be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness,<br />

with burnt offering <strong>and</strong> whole burnt offering; then<br />

shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar."<br />

I have been shown that in the opening of new<br />

fields too much pride has often been manifested by<br />

our workers. In our work in the Southern field, we<br />

have kept too much to ourselves. Our efforts ought<br />

not to have been so closely confined to our own<br />

institutions. The light given me, <strong>and</strong> which I have<br />

given to our people, is that if workers of experience<br />

<strong>and</strong> wisdom would visit the colored schools<br />

established in Nashville <strong>and</strong> different places, <strong>and</strong><br />

manifest an interest in their work, our workers<br />
