Brother Washburn, you <strong>and</strong> your colaborers<br />

should ever bear in mind that you are in a<br />

missionary field where a gr<strong>and</strong>, all-round work is<br />

to be done for God. The heathen are right about<br />

you. Should you follow the course that has been<br />

pursued in the past toward the colored people, you<br />

would not fulfill your duty. The Lord calls for<br />

missionary work to be done. Those who make the<br />

South their field of labor are not to perpetuate the<br />

prejudice that has existed in the past against the<br />

colored people. The teachers of the truth are to<br />

labor for this neglected race, <strong>and</strong> by their efforts<br />

win the respect, not only of the colored people, but<br />

of the workers in other denominations. May the<br />

Lord bless you in this work, is my earnest prayer.<br />

The words that Christ spoke to his disciples<br />

when he sent them forth the first time, will apply to<br />

the experiences of the worker today. "Behold," he<br />

said, "I send you forth as sheep in the midst of<br />

wolves." You will need to underst<strong>and</strong> how to meet<br />

all classes. "Be ye therefore wise as serpents, <strong>and</strong><br />
