the work. The perplexities connected with the<br />

financial side of the work were presented. The<br />

brethren were trying to adjust matters of a most<br />

perplexing nature. Some changes had been made in<br />

the business arrangements.<br />

One of the company arose, <strong>and</strong> going to the last<br />

seat in the room, placed his arm around J. E.<br />

<strong>White</strong>, <strong>and</strong> led him to the front. He then rehearsed<br />

the facts concerning his labor in the South. He<br />

spoke of the efforts that had been made when he<br />

<strong>and</strong> Brother Palmer first went there. He went into<br />

the history, from point to point, of the publication<br />

of the little book, "Gospel Primer". This book - the<br />

only hope that seemed to present itself for the relief<br />

of the Southern field - was coveted by men who<br />

had no burden for that field. The author, driven to<br />

extremities, felt that he was forced to sell the plates<br />

<strong>and</strong> copyrights of his book.<br />

The Speaker referred to the continued efforts<br />

made by Edson <strong>White</strong>, <strong>and</strong> to the counter efforts<br />

made to frustrate the work, among these the calling<br />
