as it should have been <strong>and</strong> might have been. It was<br />

taken up with worthy aspirations <strong>and</strong> noble<br />

ambitions. The laborers have put the whole<br />

energies of body, mind, <strong>and</strong> soul into its<br />

upbuilding. But a murmuring, questioning, selfish<br />

spirit has been manifested by some in other places.<br />

This has made the work very hard, <strong>and</strong> because of<br />

it less progress has been made than otherwise<br />

would have been made. ..." The words were<br />

spoken: "God knows the objectionable features in<br />

the character of every one here assembled, <strong>and</strong> the<br />

Lord Jesus covers His servants with the mantle of<br />

his righteousness. God judges righteously the<br />

motives of the workers he chooses. Man can not<br />

read the heart of man; therefore many are<br />

misjudged. But in the end men will be valued as<br />

they st<strong>and</strong> in the sight of God, not as they appear to<br />

their fellowmen.<br />

"This man has labored most earnestly to<br />

advance the work among the colored people. In this<br />

work he has pushed the triumphs of the cross more<br />

decidedly than any other of the laborers in this<br />

field. He is not a fraud. He has not selfishly,<br />
