The College of Pharmacy is comprised of divisions
in Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences and
Clinical and Administrative Sciences.
Xavier has earned a well-deserved reputation
as a “STEM” oriented school. Its graduates excel
in the sciences, technology, engineering and
mathematics. Although the school does not
offer an engineering degree, it partners with
several top engineering institutions, enabling its
graduates to obtain dual degrees in the field.
Xavier has distinguished itself for education in
the sciences and pre-med having been cited for
being the top producer of African-American
medical doctors in the United States.
Xavier’s College of Pharmacy, one of only
two in Louisiana, is highly-ranked in graduating
African-Americans with degrees in
Pharm.D. In 2006, the College of Pharmacy
was the recipient of a $17.5 million donation
from the nation of Qatar, to assist in hurricane
recovery and towards the opening of the new
Qatar Pharmacy Pavilion.
Xavier University of Louisiana provides its
students with limitless opportunities for educational
and personal growth. Everything
from studying abroad and professional development
to a wide array of programs and activities
encouraging leadership and community
service. Although Xavier is a Catholic university,
it reflects a highly diverse population,
and it has always welcomed qualified students
of every race and creed; about one fourth of
its students are not African-American, and
approximately three-fourths are not Catholic.
Its location in New Orleans presents a myriad
of cultural and social interests, which enrich
the educational experience of its students.
Xavier has distinguished itself in numerous
rankings of colleges and universities in the
United States garnering accolades as one of the
best schools in the nation in many categories.
Recently, The Princeton Review rated Xavier
among the 382 best colleges and universities in
the United States based on several criteria of
academic quality. It was deemed the “best
value” among southern regional colleges and
universities by U.S. News Media Group.
Students interviewed were proud of the
school’s “close-knit, family” atmosphere; of the
availability and caring of their professors; and
of the motivation and hard work of their peers.
When surveyed by the Wall Street Journal about
how well they felt they were being prepared for
their careers, Xavier’s students responded with
the highest rating of any school in the south
and the top nationwide. In the words of one
student, “Xavier has the tools to help everyone
get to where they want to be.”
Xavier University of Louisiana has been
making history since its inception more than
ninety years ago, and its remarkable success
over the years assures that its legacy of academic
excellence will cultivate students who
are prepared to lead and build a more just and
humane society.
