Quire with Ktêma Encore! 2 Choirs- 1 World Following their hugely successful tour to Brittany last year Quire are returning the favour by hosting Ktêma, the renowned World Music Choir led by Jeremy Simon, on their first British tour. On 7th July 2018 both choirs will be performing Encore! – 2 Choirs, 1 World at Maldon Methodist Church with a total of 90 singers! Quire – Colchester’s Community World Music Choir has been featured on BBC Radio as well as visiting Hull – City of Culture last year. Quire and Ktêma learn ‘folk’ choral music from many traditions including American Gospel, Central and Southern African Gospel and Work song, Hispanic song, British, Celtic and West Gallery song. Also included in our repertoire are Russian, German, French, Maori, Tahitian, Irish and Dutch songs, many sung in the original language. The lists are ever expanding. Our joint performances are lively, audience-friendly, exuberant and straight from the heart. We dance, we clap, we click our fingers and stamp our feet as well as singing in four-part harmony – YES – all at the same time! We enter into the spirit of songs we sing. Early in the afternoon you may catch us singing in Promenade Park (weather permitting) as we warm up for the evening Concert that starts at 8pm. The concert is raising funds for the new “Holiday Dinners” initiative. Gill Songer from Maldon Methodist Church writes “We have set it up as we are aware that children who are entitled to free breakfasts at school (the dinners having been scrapped) are going hungry during the school holidays. We are working with one of the local primary schools and will be feeding up to 40 primary aged children twice a week who have been identified by them. We will be providing proper home cooked dinners, for example: sausages, mash and peas/baked beans followed by apple crumble and custard – all home cooked. We estimate that each meal time will cost £40 to £50 so we are looking to raise £500 initially.” So book the date in your diary, check out our website – www.quire.org or better still buy your tickets now. I know it sounds good ~ ~ but U have to B over 60 ~~ only just will do !! ‘The Club belongs to the Members’ Register for tickets to meet experts behind Great Baddow bus gate Residents who want to learn more about vital infrastructure that will help reduce traffic and pollution in Chelmsford can now register for tickets to meet the experts behind the plans. Essex County Council has set up 12 new public information sessions over two days to give residents more time to learn about the Great Baddow Bus Gate proposals and share their views and concerns with highways officers. The sessions, which each last 50 minutes and can accommodate 50 people, were set up after Great Baddow East Neighbourhood Association’s public meeting had to be abandoned due to overcrowding and safety fears. Cllr Kevin Bentley, Deputy Leader of Essex County Council and Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, said: “I am delighted to announce further details for another round of information events to give residents a fair opportunity to find out what’s planned and have their say in a safe environment. “It’s absolutely vital that we hear from the entire community and these sessions will give residents a chance to meet the team behind the bus gate proposals, ask questions and share their views and concerns constructively. “I haven’t ruled out the possibility of an alternative scheme to reduce congestion in this area providing it is affordable, deliverable and is funded. That is why this trial will not take place until 2020. “GBENA’s public meeting earlier this year had to be cancelled when the 200-capacity venue could not accommodate the large number of residents who turned up. “But these ticketed events mean 600 residents can meet face-toface with council officers and, if the demand is there, we will arrange more sessions to ensure everyone’s opinions are heard.” A dedicated website has also been set up to provide residents with more detailed information on the bus gate proposals, including short videos, which answer the most commonly asked questions. The bus gate plan is one of 16 congestion-busting ideas being taken forward after proposals were put to the public in the Chelmsford City Growth Package consultation last year. The bus gate proposal will help keep the city moving for years to come and ensure Chelmsford’s roads, which are just 4% from capacity at peak times, do not grind to a halt. Cllr Bentley added: “The Army and Navy roundabout is one of the worst areas for congestion. “With the city’s growth continuing, that means more vehicles are using our roads. Therefore, we cannot sit back idly and allow them to grind to a halt. “Congestion problems are already costing the city as much as £50 million every year, so we must take action now before traffic worsens and air quality deteriorates and affects residents’ longterm health. “The Baddow bus gate is one of 16 bold plans that will help ease congestion and create a joined-up and truly modern sustainable transport network.” Six sessions will be held on Thursday, 31 May, and six more on Tuesday, 5 June, at Hamptons Sports and Leisure Club, formerly the Marconi Club, in Tydemans, off Beehive Lane, CM2 9FH. Tickets will be allocated in strict 50-minute slots to ensure the number of people attending is controlled and safe, and so everyone has a chance to speak to the project team. A valid email address is required to book tickets. If you do not have email, you can request tickets by calling 0345 603 7631. Tickets are limited for each session and will be reserved on a first come, first served basis. A maximum of one ticket will be issued per person.
