Danbury & Bicknacre FC U12s Win League Cup in Epic Battle
In their first year of
competitive football the
Danbury & Bicknacre U14s FC celebrate their League Cup Victory
Danbury & Bicknacre U12
Royals team won an epic
encounter with Heybridge
Swifts at the Burnham
Ramblers FC Stadium.
Having met several times
this year the Danbury team
had yet to register a win
against their local rivals
from Heybridge. With the
crowd in fine voice the
game started at a good
pace and Danbury drew
first blood after 10 minutes
with a great finish from Jack
C. But Swifts, whilst
shocked, didn’t panic, and
played themselves back
into the game taking a just
about deserved lead of 2-1
into the half-time break.
Whatever was said by
Coach Pashley at half-time clearly worked as it only took 2 minutes of the second half for Danbury to equalise
through a rocket finish from Lawrence M. The game was a real battle now – Swifts with the strength and skills,
Danbury with pride and passion. With 10 to go, Danbury broke into the Swifts box and, through a crowd of
players, Henry T somehow squeezed the ball home to signal mayhem amongst the travelling supporters. It was
along last 10 minutes as Swifts had attack after
attack but rarely really threatened the goal as the
defence and hardworking Keeper Jim were kept
busy. As the final whistle was blown, the screams
echoed out and the tears started to flow – and that
was just the mums! Congratulations boys you were
magnificent.
