their Yr 9 boys scored a<br />

last gasp overtime try to<br />

win the Essex County Cup<br />

for the first time against a<br />

very talented team from St<br />

Clere’s School, Stanfordle-Hope.<br />

The Sandon School Yr 9 Rugby Squad celebrate<br />

off the travelling supporters<br />

and they were in fine voice<br />

throughout. In a tough,<br />

tense and pulsating match,<br />

where the lead changed<br />

hands 4 times, Sandon had<br />

to work harder than they<br />

ever have all season to keep<br />

themselves in the game and<br />

set up the winning score for<br />

the massively influential Tris<br />

Koch to break free in overtime to secure the 19-<br />

14 victory. Sandon’s Koch and Harrison Riley had<br />

scored 2 earlier tries following excellent forward<br />

Koch goes over for<br />

the winning try<br />

work, but the team also had full back Will<br />

Broadrick to thank for an amazing last ditch try<br />

saving tackle that would have put St Clere’s 2 tries<br />

up and probably in an uncatchable position.<br />

Fantastic and noisy celebrations as the whistle<br />

went – and that was just the travelling supporters,<br />

the boys were spent! Congratulations to all the<br />

boys, many of whom come from Danbury and our<br />

surrounding villages.<br />
