<strong>Hollywood</strong> pioneer Jacob Stern<br />
opened the <strong>Hollywood</strong> Plaza Hotel in<br />
1925 on his former residential<br />
property between Selma Avenue and<br />
<strong>Hollywood</strong> Boulevard on Vine Street.<br />
The hotel catered to the motion<br />
picture community for many years,<br />
becoming a venue for industry parties.<br />
In 1937, motion picture star Clara<br />
Bow opened her own nightclub in the<br />
old ballroom and called the club the<br />
“It Café”. The century old palm trees<br />
that can still be seen behind the<br />
Plaza Hotel building originally<br />
surrounded Jacob Stern’s house. The<br />
hotel today is a retirement home.<br />
