Any time a book about history is written, no matter how recent the history may be, opinions and
rememberances often vary and we have tried to keep this publication as accurate as possible. The
publication of a book is always a collaborative effort and those who have helped with this book,
whether by giving their time, support, or input, need to be thanked. The Hollywood Chamber of
Commerce and its executive director, Leron Gubler, the Hollywood Business Improvement District
and its executive director, Kerry Morrison, and Hollywood’s honorary mayor, Johnny Grant, all
helped to initiate the project. The Hollywood Heritage board gave its support, especially past-
President Kay Tornborg and current President Fran Offenhauser, who both gave much support and
technical expertise. Hollywood Heritage board member John Clifford translated handwritten notes
into pages of type (as he had done for Robert Nudelman for twenty-four years) and Amy Higgins
prepared the photograph files. All illustrations used in the publication are from the Hollywood
Heritage Museum archives and Bison Archives.
Robert W. Nudelman also gratefully thanks his parents, Sol and Ruth, whose support has made it
possible for him to pursue Hollywood’s preservation issues for almost thirty years, allowing the
public to experience Hollywood’s history in person, not just in books, for many years to come.
