Left: The Hollywood Pantages Theater
was built in 1930 and was the first
Art Deco theater in the United States.
The theater’s design was most
impressive with a custom “Mayan-
Deco” design incorporating motion
picture industry icons in its décor. In
1950 the theater annually hosted the
Academy Awards until 1960. By
February 1977 the theater became a
legitimate stage, and continues to be a
beautiful and important landmark in
Hollywood today.
Below: Throughout the 1950s,
Hollywood was undergoing a
construction boom and the California
Bank established a Hollywood branch
to help finance many projects. This
branch was located across the street
from where the famed Lasky-DeMille
Studio barn was once situated. By the
1960s the abandoned vault had become
a recording studio where the Bobby
Fuller Four would record I Fought the
Law. In 1969, Led Zeppelin would use
the studio for the recording of the echo
effects for Whole Lotta Love.
