Above: Located at 1416 North La
Brea Avenue on an old Hollywood
estate near the corner of Sunset
Boulevard and La Brea Avenue, the
Chaplin Studio was where Chaplin
made all his films from 1919 to 1952.
In 1966 the studio became the A&M
Recording Studios and is a Los
Angeles Historic Cultural Landmark
honoring the English cottage style
architecture and the studio's history.
The studio was taken over by the Jim
Henson Company and is today called
The Jim Henson (The Muppets)
Studio and is still used for music
recording by artists such as Paul
McCartney and Sting.
for funds to open a place where servicemen
could come and be entertained and welcomed
while in Hollywood. Hollywood’s spirit as
a family town helped the overall morale of
the locals as well as the visitors during the
war. When the war was over on August 14,
1945, the intersection of Hollywood and
Vine looked like Times Square in New York with
a sea of people filling the streets to celebrate the
end of the war.
By 1946, television production was beginning
to play an important role within the Hollywood
community. Television had been developed by
some film studios in the 1920s and 1930s, but
with the coming of WWII, all television
development and production was suspended.
Right: Located at the corner of Gower
Street and Melrose Avenue, the RKO
(Radio-Keith-Orpheum) Studios were
a result of several film company
mergers on the site since 1921. The
signature stage with its RKO Radio
tower became a Hollywood landmark
after it's construction in 1929. The
studio became Desilu and in 1967
was annexed to Paramount Studios.
