Rikard Appelgren, WSP<br />

Rikard is managing director of WSP Sweden <strong>and</strong> WSP Europe,<br />

<strong>and</strong> is executive director of WSP plc board. Having worked<br />

as an engineering consultant <strong>and</strong> contractor in Sweden <strong>and</strong><br />

Germany <strong>for</strong> 8 years he joined WSP Sweden in 1996.<br />

Kurt Birkenmeier, gauff JBg Ingenieure<br />

Kurt graduated from the Technical University of Braunschweig<br />

<strong>for</strong> Civil <strong>Engineering</strong> in 1979. He has 30 years of professional<br />

experience in the fields of hydraulic <strong>and</strong> structural engineering<br />

as well as cost estimate <strong>and</strong> cost control, part of which<br />

was gained abroad. Kurt is extensively experienced in the<br />

management of large projects <strong>and</strong> large companies of up to<br />

500 employees through his work in internationally successful<br />

companies over 30 years, <strong>and</strong> in senior positions <strong>for</strong> almost<br />

20 years. He has worked in Germany, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia,<br />

United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Ug<strong>and</strong>a, Tanzania, China <strong>and</strong><br />

Egypt.<br />

Hugh Blackwood, URS Scott Wilson<br />

Hugh joined Scott Wilson in 1971 <strong>and</strong> developed his career<br />

as a civil engineer in the road <strong>and</strong> railway sectors. He was<br />

made a partner in the business in 1989. In 1995 Hugh led<br />

the acquisition of the <strong>for</strong>mer British Rail engineering offices<br />

in Swindon <strong>and</strong> Glasgow <strong>and</strong> took on the role of chief<br />

executive officer of the UK railways division. In May 2005<br />

Hugh was appointed joint chief executive of the Scott Wilson<br />

Group charged with the continued successful growth of the<br />

international <strong>and</strong> UK railways divisions. In May 2008 Hugh<br />

became group chief executive. Following the acquisition of the<br />

company by URS Corporation in September 2010, Hugh was<br />

appointed to the position of senior vice president, international<br />

operations as well as vice president of URS Corporation.<br />
