consultancy, sustainable energy, landscape architecture and
telemetry systems. In January 2010, Lawrence was appointed
as group director of water and energy across the international
Grontmij group. The group now encompasses 11,000
professionals and a turnover of over €£1bn (2009). In his current
role, Lawrence is responsible for the performance of the water
and energy business across all eight main countries of the
group. He is also in charge of leading the cross-fertilisation of
market opportunities with international expertise. Lawrence is
vice chairman of ACE where he oversees the organisation’s
strategy of engagement in public affairs. Lawrence has been
a board member of the ACE for three years during which
time he has overseen Grontmij’s wider involvement with the
organisation. With over 30 years engineering experience
gained internationally, Lawrence has held senior positions at
various consultancies in the UK and overseas. He is a MICE,
chartered engineer and a registered professional engineer in
the State of Texas.
dr. Bernd Kordes, lahmeyer
Bernd is President and CEO of Lahmeyer International. Bernd
is a civil engineer with a MSc and PhD from the University
of Karlsruhe, Germany. He has 24 years of experience in
consulting engineering with GKW Group, Germany from 1986
to 1989, WCI Umwelttechnik GmbH, Germany, subsidiary of
Woodward Clyde (today URS) from 1989 to 1993 as managing
director. After rejoining GKW Group in 1993 he became
managing director and CEO in 1996. In 2005 GKW group was
acquired by Pöyry, Finland. After the successful integration of
GKW into Pöyry, Bernd became responsible for the water and
enviroment business sector segment ‘water and environment’
globally and member of the group executive committee
until 2010. Bernd was a member of FIDIC Environmental
Committee from 1991 – 2000. From 2007 – 2010 he was
a member of the EFCA board of directors. He is chairing
the international committee of VBI, the German Consulting
Engineering Association, since 2006.
