CafÉ
A different kind of
amusement park
When you enter, you will be guided to
a ticketing machine where you have to
pay ₩10,000 for one ticket that includes
a drink of your choice (coffee, lemon,
or grapefruit tea) and all-access to the
museum, outdoor areas, and activity rooms.
The wide, open spaces, high columns and
preserved factory facade will give you
a peek of what the place looked like 40
years ago. But once you go inside, the
design is made more contemporary and
fit for a flexible place where events, flea
markets, and festivals are held regularly.
Before exploring, head over to the
Seunseun Cafe (슨슨카페), which has its
own roasting room where they make fresh
coffee every day. The wide glass windows
surrounding the cafe will give you a full
view of the outside, where art installations
and the famous red lighthouse is located.
On the side, you will find the Museum
of Art (산속등대미술관은) where can
browse through a gallery that regularly
displays the work of local artists. The
museum was built at a paper factory
where 300 workers used to produce
paper. On exhibit at the time of writing
were the works of artist Lee Kab-jae,
who created layered or collaged papers
depicting congested cities, expressing
the feeling of loneliness and busyness
of city living in otherwise fun and
colorful images.
A family-friendly place
Outside the cafe is a photo zone where
you can explore and take photos in the
backdrop of a huge whale installation,
abandoned ruins, tables and chairs
partially submerged in water, and
container houses that are converted
into libraries and entertainment rooms.
