At that moment Cailin and Hope walked through the door and Jess immediately focused her eyes

on Cailin. What she felt didn’t matter in that moment.

Cailin immediately headed for Maura. After having what felt like the one millionth break down

of that day, she struggled to catch her breath, gulping for air. Maura quickly got up and led her

over to the couch and had her sit. It seemed like it took her forever to get out four words to

Maura.

“I’m going to die.”

As Jess watched Cailin and Maura fall apart, that feeling grew and got stronger and more

powerful than she had felt in years. As much as she cared about Cailin, she knew she needed to

immediately talk to someone. The 10th step of NA, continue to take inventory. When you are

wrong, promptly admit it.

Jess quickly made her way up from the floor and went over and gave Cailin a hug. “We’ve got

you Cailin. You’re not alone in this. “ Jess squeezes Cailin’s hand. “I’ll be right back, okay?”

Cailin nods and Jess turns her attention back to Jane.

“Ma, can you and I go up to your room and talk for a minute?”

“Yeah, of course,” Jane says as she puts her hand on Jess’s back and guides the red head up

towards her and Maura’s room.

Jess stops for a moment to thank Emily, who is cleaning up the shattered mess on the living

room floor.

When they entered the room, Jess closed the door behind them and went and sat on the bed as

tears started to fall. “I, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”

Jane is at her daughter's side in a flash “ Hey, what are you sorry about Jess? What’s going on?”
