"No, ma it's nothing like that. Jess isn't in any kind of trouble, she's clean, " Blaire stated, finding

humor in the fact that less than an hour ago, she was ready to throw punches with Jess but now

found herself defending her.

"Well what was it then Blaire, because mom and I have just about had it with all the fighting,"

Jane remarked.

“I, I can’t ma. I’m sorry but I can’t tell you. It's not for me to say.”

Jane sighs. “Well, when you’re ready to talk to me my door is open.” Jane pauses for a moment

before continuing.

Your first mistake was thinking I will overlook disrespect because you are an adult. I don’t care

if you are 16, 21, or 40. This will be your one and only warning Blaire. If you ever speak to me

like that again, I will not hesitate to check that attitude. Next time, if there ever is a next time,

this talk will involve my belt to your behind. I don’t care how old you are, you're still my

daughter. You know better than to throw out that kind of disrespect. Is that clear?”

Blaire nods. “Yes ma’am.”

Jane watches as her daughter begins to sob, her body visibly shaking. She puts her arm around

her and pulls her close.

“That’s part of your problem sweetie. You hold that pain in and you don’t deal with it. When

you were younger you learned to block your feelings however you could. It’s okay to feel it

Blaire. I know it hurts but you have to let yourself feel it.”

“I’m scared ma. What if she dies? ” In that moment, though just hours before she had touted to

Jane that she was an adult, Blaire balled herself up and buried herself into Jane’s chest like a

child and soaked in the comfort from her mother she desperately needed.
