My dog came bounding
into the house
this morning with
the neighbor’s rabbit
hanging lifeless from
its jaws.
Panic set in and so I
scrubbed it clean and
got the blood marks
off until the poor
rabbit was pure white
again. I snuck into the
neighbor’s garden and
popped the rabbit back
into the cage that it
belonged in.
That evening, my
neighbor knocked
on my door. When I
answered, he was all
flustered and said,
“I can’t believe it!
Flopsy is lying dead in
his outside cage and
the kids are
hysterical!”
“I’m sorry to hear that,”
I replied nervously.
“Thanks. I just don’t
get it. I buried that bunny
a few days ago.”
My wife keeps bugging me to do the ironing, but I have more pressing matters.
