The Lighting Detectives surveyed “Miyashita Park<br />
Shibuya Yokocho” and “Nonbei Yokocho” an old and<br />
new version of back-street alleyways lined with drinking<br />
establishments. Located near Shibuya Station<br />
Miyamasuzaka Exit, both alleyways are lined with bars<br />
and restaurants. Patrons and lighting both have an air<br />
of excitement, but a tasteful atmosphere for a very<br />
charming experience.<br />

Focusing on two of the Yokohama Minato Mirai districts -<br />
the Central District and the Shinko District - which have<br />
seen a flurry of development over the past few years,<br />
the study investigated the relationship between<br />
landscape guidelines and lighting plans, and the<br />
nightscape of Minato Mirai in response to requests to<br />
save electricity.<br />

The Lighting Detectives surveyed the newly completed<br />
redevelopment project of undergrounding railway line in<br />
Shimokitazawa, which started construction in 2013.<br />
Shimokitazawa, which has long been a bustling<br />
subculture area, was left with a chaotic atmosphere, with<br />
the voice of residents opposed to the development being<br />
taken into account. Although lighting in the neighborhood<br />
seems unbalanced, it creates a homely and easy going<br />
atmosphere, very fitting for Shimokitazawa.
