Each country <strong>and</strong> region will, of course, have <strong>to</strong> make their own analysis of funding needs <strong>and</strong><br />
opportunities <strong>for</strong> their RIS3 strategies. This includes private investments as one explicit goal of<br />
RIS3, included in the criteria <strong>for</strong> the conditionality, is <strong>to</strong> leverage private RTD investments.<br />
In case such an analysis has not yet been initiated, RIS3 presents an opportunity <strong>to</strong> do so <strong>and</strong> will<br />
enable regions <strong>and</strong> their innovation ac<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>to</strong> identify <strong>and</strong> articulate funding needs <strong>for</strong> their<br />
strategies. Figure 5 intends <strong>to</strong> illustrate these issues.<br />
