Use QUERY VIRTUAL TAPES to display the status of all tape devices accessible to<br />

your virtual machine.<br />

Response 1:<br />

TAPE vdev ON DEV rdev type [GIVEN BY userid] {R/O }<br />

[GIVEN TO userid] {R/W*}<br />

[SUBCHANNEL = vsub] [NOASSIGN]<br />

[SPXTAPE operation status]<br />

is displayed for each tape device attached to your virtual machine.<br />

Note that (*) this is the mode that the giver currently has the tape drive in <strong>and</strong> is not<br />

the mode in which it was given.<br />

vdev<br />

identifies the virtual device number.<br />

rdev<br />

identifies the real device number.<br />

1128 z/<strong>VM</strong>: <strong>CP</strong> <strong>Comm<strong>and</strong>s</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Utilities</strong> <strong>Reference</strong><br />

type<br />

identifies the device type of the attached tape device.<br />

GIVEN BY userid<br />

GIVEN TO userid<br />

indicates that the real device was given to another user ID or was received from<br />

another user ID through the GIVE comm<strong>and</strong>. These parameters only appear for<br />

tape drives that have been given with the return option specified.<br />

R/O<br />

R/W<br />

identifies the type of access you have to the device. R/O indicates that you<br />

have read only access; R/W indicates that you have both read <strong>and</strong> write<br />

access.<br />

SUBCHANNEL = vsub<br />

identifies the virtual subchannel number. This value is displayed only if your<br />

virtual machine is an XA, ESA, or XC virtual machine.<br />

NOASSIGN<br />

indicates the tape drive was attached with the NOASSIGN option.<br />

SPXTAPE<br />

indicates an SPXTAPE operation is running on the virtual tape drive.<br />
