much time for eating; try to be finished in 20 or 25 minutes. When<br />
one is practicing, one doesn’t give much importance to food.<br />
<strong>Luang</strong> <strong>Por</strong> Maha Amorn 23 wrote some very nice reflections on<br />
one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Dhamma-signs put up on <strong>the</strong> trees, which, as he hopes,<br />
may stimulate a bit <strong>of</strong> shame and scruple in us, preventing<br />
negligence. He wrote:<br />
“Some ordain just for food. Having filled up <strong>the</strong>ir belly <strong>the</strong>y<br />
lie down to sleep – no better than animals.<br />
Some ordain wanting to have fun and play around – just like<br />
householders.<br />
Some ordain lost in delusion – <strong>the</strong> longer <strong>the</strong>y stay, <strong>the</strong> more<br />
silly <strong>the</strong>y become.<br />
If one hopes for magga-phala-nibbana, having ordained, one<br />
upholds <strong>the</strong> Dhamma.”<br />
This is what <strong>Luang</strong> <strong>Por</strong> Maha Amorn wrote. It is not good, if<br />
we behave like animals in <strong>the</strong> way we consume things. Only<br />
animals compete and snatch away things from each o<strong>the</strong>r. For us,<br />
we practice maintaining our principles. Competition is not good<br />
behaviour. <strong>Luang</strong> <strong>Por</strong> Maha Amorn also warned <strong>the</strong> villagers<br />
about snatching away each o<strong>the</strong>r’s houses, food and land,<br />
sometimes even <strong>the</strong>ir partners, as well as fighting for power and<br />
control.<br />
When I read those lines, it really stuck in my mind as a<br />
warning. Some people never think like that, because it is <strong>the</strong><br />
