Sunset Golf Sabina:
a memorable charity celebration
On Saturday 22nd July, Meloneras Golf became the
setting for a charity-focused sporting event, marking
the third instalment of the distinguished Sunset
Golf Sabina tournament, masterfully orchestrated
by the Sabina Group. This event, now into its
third consecutive year, has left an indelible mark on
the south of the island of Gran Canaria during the
summer season. It has brought together fervent
golf enthusiasts keen to experience a unique day
full of memorable moments.
From first light, around 100 avid golfers congregated
on the course, eager to take on the challenges
that lay ahead of them over the course of the day,
instilling an atmosphere full of excitement and fervour.
That said, Sunset Golf Sabina transcends the
purely golfing realm, encapsulating something
far more significant. In this edition, the proceeds
from the event were donated to the Alejandro Da
Silva Leukaemia Foundation, an entity whose genesis
dates back to May 1989. The foundation came
about as a result of the generosity of two loving
parents who, having gone through the huge trauma
of losing a child to leukaemia, experienced a
lack of support, both psychological and care, during
the rollercoaster journey of the disease. Their
experience instigated the creation of a foundation
named after their son, thus filling a crucial gap in
non-medical support for both patients and their
loved ones.
El Grupo Sabina has transcended its borders, and
is widely recognised as a company committed to
social responsibility, a commitment that has manifested
itself in various community initiatives. These
range from campaigns to support gender equality
to actions that join the fight against breast cancer,
and the Sabina Group has demonstrated its commitment
to causes that have a positive impact on
society. An example of this commendable dedication
can be seen during the Christmas festivities,
where, for a decade running, they have donated
1% of their food sales to Cáritas Diocesana de Canarias.
In the last edition, they managed to collect
more than 17,000 kilos of food for the benefit of the
neediest families in the Canary Islands.
Diversity and tolerance embody core values for the
Sabina Group, to which the amalgamation of more
than 14 nationalities in its ranks attests. Its optimistic
and energetic outlook permeates its establishments,
creating spaces that celebrate beauty in its
many manifestations.
Beyond its physical premises, the Sabina Group
has also successfully ventured into the field of
e-commerce, metamorphosing its web portal into
an important online store in a very short time. This
strategy has broadened its reach and allowed its
products and services to reach a wider audience,
without detracting from the excellence and service
that set them apart.
Half a century of success and experience
This year’s Sunset Golf Sabina event takes on a
singular nuance as it celebrates the 50th anniversary
of the Sabina Group. An occasion of such
magnitude was crying out for a commemoration
to match it, and the organisers did not disappoint,
transforming the event into a more lively and contagious
party than ever before.
The standout element within the repertoire of
surprises and novelty features that the Sabina
Group presented on its 50th anniversary was the
announcement of a raffle for a brand new Audi A1
scheduled for the first week of September, injecting
yet more excitement and interest into the proceedings.
The tournament culminated in a succulent lunch
served on the club's terrace. There, players and other
attendees shared precious moments, exchanging
experiences and anecdotes related to the tournament.
The prize-giving turned out to be another
highlight of the day. For golf enthusiasts, the outcome
of the classification was as follows: in the
Partial Scratch category, Borja González del Toro
won; in the men's first category, Carlos Bruneson
Bravo de Laguna took first place, followed by Efrén
Hernández González and Francisco Javier Suárez
Fuentes. In the men’s second category, Guillermo
González de Vera prevailed, followed by Federico
López Aguiar and Giorgio Zappala. In the women's
handicap category, María Matilde Pérez Torres
emerged as the winner, followed by Wanda Reinhart
and Pepa Ojeda Sosa.
The Sunset Golf Sabina event was a resounding
success, part of which can be attributed to the
event's collaborators. Companies such as Tao Club
& Garden and Grupo Ruido joined the celebrations,
contributing their talent and professionalism. In
addition, Tao Club & Garden wowed everyone present
with an exquisite culinary offering, delighting
the palates and adding priceless value to the experience.
And, undoubtedly, all this would not have
been possible without the absolute dedication of
the Lopesan Meloneras Golf team, whose unwavering
kindness and willingness to please turned
the coordination of the day into a real delight.
