Mexican textiles, continuing an ancient pre-<br />
Hispanic tradition are produced by about sixty<br />
indigenous groups and are unique, amazingly<br />
diverse, very colorful and beautifully designed.<br />
It is one of the crafts that evolves with people,<br />
now emerging as a fusion of old and new that<br />
never ceases to surprise.<br />
Most textiles are still made by women on traditional<br />
back-strap looms or at the textile factories<br />
on old foot pedal looms from the colonial<br />
period. The most common fibers are cotton<br />
and wool, although silk was also introduced by<br />
Europeans.<br />
