The value added of majority-owned US affiliates in <strong>Spain</strong> represented an<br />

average of 1.7% of Spanish GDP annually between 1994 <strong>and</strong> 2002 (latest data<br />

available). 3 This is roughly <strong>the</strong> same as Italy but well below o<strong>the</strong>r large EU<br />

economies (see Exhibit 2.7). The share of value added remained virtually<br />

unchanged between 1994 <strong>and</strong> 2002, while in most o<strong>the</strong>r countries it increased,<br />

most spectacularly in Irel<strong>and</strong> (from 12.1% to 19.4%) as a result of <strong>the</strong> huge<br />

impact of massive US investment on a tiny economy <strong>and</strong>, in particular, <strong>the</strong><br />
