Chemical weed control was employed (Table 5.2). Imazethapyr and ethalfluralin<br />

were both applied the autumn before the lentils were planted. Glyphosate<br />

(Monsanto, Winnipeg, Manitoba) was used as a preseed burnoff and metribuzin (4-<br />

amino-6-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-3-(methylthio)-1,2,4-triazin-5(4H)-one) and clethodim<br />

(Bayer, Calgary, Alberta) ((±)-2-[(E)-1-[(E)-3-chloroallyloxyimino]propyl]-5-[2-<br />

(ethylthio)propyl]-3-hydroxycyclohex-2-enone) were applied in crop. Diquat<br />

(Syngenta, Guelph, Ontario) was applied on selected plots as the desiccant with a<br />

CO2 powered hand wand sprayer. The diquat rate was 1.75 l ha -1 with 172 ml ha -1<br />

of the surfactant Agsurf (IPCO, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) at a water volume of<br />

170 l ha -1 .<br />
