depart. We depart for Milan, via Rome.<br />

MiLan. We arrive in Milan and transfer to<br />

our hotel. The balance of the day is at<br />

leisure until our Welcome Dinner tonight.<br />

MiLan / Ligure. On our morning tour of<br />

Milan we see the Cathedral, Duomo, the<br />

castle, the Galleria and the famous opera<br />

house La Scala. After our tour we depart<br />

for the Ligurian coast and the charming<br />

town of Santa Margherita Ligure. This<br />

evening there will be an orientation lecture.<br />

portofino / caMogLi / Ligure. We<br />

take a boat ride along one of Italy’s most<br />

beautiful coasts, stopping in Portofino, a<br />

beautiful port town that has long been a<br />

favourite destination for the rich and<br />

famous. We then continue to the<br />

picturesque fishing village of Camogli,<br />

known as the “City of the Thousand White<br />

Sailng Ships” for its maritime tradition.<br />

cinQue terre / Ligure. We travel by<br />

coach and train to the five villages known<br />

as Cinque Terre, which cling dramatically<br />

to the cliffs along the rocky coastline. Upon<br />

arrival at the village of Riomaggori we take<br />

a walk along the Via D’Amore to Manarola,<br />

and then take the local train to Vernazza<br />

for some free time. Then there will be a<br />

boat ride to Monterosso, one of the most<br />

attractive of the five villages. At the end of<br />

our visit we return to Ligure by train.<br />

Ligure. At leisure to explore the town<br />

and stroll the lovely coastline promenade.<br />

portoVenere / Montecatini. We<br />

depart for the village of Portovenere,<br />

situated on a rocky coastline. The village<br />

was dear to Lord Byron for its climate and<br />

tranquility. The 12th century village centre<br />

still preserves the original coloured houses<br />

overlooking the harbor and the Tinetto<br />

Islands. We will see the 13th century St.<br />

Peter's Church, which is built on rocks. We<br />

continue to Montecatini and, after a<br />

welcome drink, there will be an<br />

entertaining talk on the history, art, local<br />

traditions and present-day rivalries in<br />

Tuscany.<br />

Montecatini. Today’s guided tour will<br />

include an explanation of the miraculous<br />

waters you can taste at the local spas and<br />

the artistic importance of the spa premises.<br />

fLorence / Montecatini. A full day<br />

touring in Florence - the "Cradle of the<br />

Renaissance". We visit the Academia<br />

Gallery to see the magnificent statue of<br />

David by Michelangelo. We then have a<br />

walking tour and see the multi-coloured<br />

marble cathedral, Signoria Square, the<br />

Baptistery and Piazzale Michelangelo from<br />

where we have the best view over the city.<br />

Montecatini. Tuscany is well known for<br />

its wine production, so this afternoon we<br />

visit a fine local winery. There will be a<br />

presentation on the process of winemaking,<br />

a visit of the wine cellar and a<br />

tasting of the varieties produced.<br />

Lucca / ViLLa Bernardini /<br />

Montecatini. We visit medieval Lucca<br />

and see the historical centre. The little<br />

shops in this town are a delight. In the<br />

afternoon we enjoy the lovely Tuscan<br />

scenery as we travel to the 17th century<br />

Villa Bernardini, an elegant villa with<br />

magnificent gardens surrounded by olive<br />

groves and vineyards. This villa has fine<br />

original furnishings and still houses a<br />

green theatre in the garden that seats 400.<br />

Montecatini. A day at leisure. The town<br />

has parks, lovely strolls and of course the<br />

popular spas for which the town is famous.<br />

They are all within walking distance of our<br />

hotel. Your Tour Manager may offer an<br />

optional tour to see more of the region.<br />

san giMignano / VoLterra /<br />

Montecatini. A full day to explore the<br />

unique hilltop towns set among the Tuscan<br />

vineyards and cypress trees. These small<br />

towns, with their medieval buildings and<br />

monuments have existed since 1155.<br />

Montecatini. At leisure. Mr. Giuseppe,<br />

the hotel's chef, will be on hand to explain<br />

the preparation of a couple of local<br />

specialties. Or, you may like to take the<br />

cog train up the hill to the ancient upper<br />

town.<br />

This evening’s Farewell Dinner will feature<br />

some specially prepared regional dishes.<br />
