TenTATive iTinerArY FOr A TASTe OF TuScAnY
depart. We depart for Milan, via Rome.
MiLan. We arrive in Milan and transfer to
our hotel. The balance of the day is at
leisure until our Welcome Dinner tonight.
MiLan / Ligure. On our morning tour of
Milan we see the Cathedral, Duomo, the
castle, the Galleria and the famous opera
house La Scala. After our tour we depart
for the Ligurian coast and the charming
town of Santa Margherita Ligure. This
evening there will be an orientation lecture.
portofino / caMogLi / Ligure. We
take a boat ride along one of Italy’s most
beautiful coasts, stopping in Portofino, a
beautiful port town that has long been a
favourite destination for the rich and
famous. We then continue to the
picturesque fishing village of Camogli,
known as the “City of the Thousand White
Sailng Ships” for its maritime tradition.
cinQue terre / Ligure. We travel by
coach and train to the five villages known
as Cinque Terre, which cling dramatically
to the cliffs along the rocky coastline. Upon
arrival at the village of Riomaggori we take
a walk along the Via D’Amore to Manarola,
and then take the local train to Vernazza
for some free time. Then there will be a
boat ride to Monterosso, one of the most
attractive of the five villages. At the end of
our visit we return to Ligure by train.
Ligure. At leisure to explore the town
and stroll the lovely coastline promenade.
portoVenere / Montecatini. We
depart for the village of Portovenere,
situated on a rocky coastline. The village
was dear to Lord Byron for its climate and
tranquility. The 12th century village centre
still preserves the original coloured houses
overlooking the harbor and the Tinetto
Islands. We will see the 13th century St.
Peter's Church, which is built on rocks. We
continue to Montecatini and, after a
welcome drink, there will be an
entertaining talk on the history, art, local
traditions and present-day rivalries in
Tuscany.
Montecatini. Today’s guided tour will
include an explanation of the miraculous

waters you can taste at the local spas and
the artistic importance of the spa premises.
fLorence / Montecatini. A full day
touring in Florence - the "Cradle of the
Renaissance". We visit the Academia
Gallery to see the magnificent statue of
David by Michelangelo. We then have a
walking tour and see the multi-coloured
marble cathedral, Signoria Square, the
Baptistery and Piazzale Michelangelo from
where we have the best view over the city.
Montecatini. Tuscany is well known for
its wine production, so this afternoon we
visit a fine local winery. There will be a
presentation on the process of winemaking,
a visit of the wine cellar and a
tasting of the varieties produced.
Lucca / ViLLa Bernardini /
Montecatini. We visit medieval Lucca
and see the historical centre. The little
shops in this town are a delight. In the
afternoon we enjoy the lovely Tuscan
scenery as we travel to the 17th century
Villa Bernardini, an elegant villa with
magnificent gardens surrounded by olive
groves and vineyards. This villa has fine
original furnishings and still houses a
green theatre in the garden that seats 400.
Montecatini. A day at leisure. The town
has parks, lovely strolls and of course the
popular spas for which the town is famous.
They are all within walking distance of our
hotel. Your Tour Manager may offer an
optional tour to see more of the region.
san giMignano / VoLterra /
Montecatini. A full day to explore the
unique hilltop towns set among the Tuscan
vineyards and cypress trees. These small
towns, with their medieval buildings and
monuments have existed since 1155.
Montecatini. At leisure. Mr. Giuseppe,
the hotel's chef, will be on hand to explain
the preparation of a couple of local
specialties. Or, you may like to take the
cog train up the hill to the ancient upper
town.
This evening’s Farewell Dinner will feature
some specially prepared regional dishes.
