departure / anchorage. We depart for<br />

Anchorage, Alaska with a change of planes in<br />

Vancouver. Upon arrival we transfer to our<br />

ship, the Sapphire Princess. This evening<br />

we enjoy our first delicious dinner onboard.<br />

huBBard gLacier (scenic cruising).<br />

Hubbard Glacier is the longest tidewater<br />

glacier in Alaska, extending 76 miles from its<br />

source on Mt. Logan in the Yukon. You will<br />

hear the creaks and groans as this very<br />

active glacier advances. There will be<br />

exciting moments when the huge chunks of<br />

ice crash into the bay creating a wonderful<br />

sound the local natives call "white thunder".<br />

gLacier BaY nationaL parK (scenic<br />

cruising). Today is a highlight of our cruise.<br />

Under a blanket of silence we gaze upon the<br />

ice cliffs and their colours of blue, green,<br />

white and grey. We look and listen for the<br />

massive slabs of ice to crash in to the water.<br />

Be sure to be out on deck to watch for whales<br />

and seals.<br />

sKagWaY. Enjoy the Gold Rush<br />

atmosphere of Skagway, home base for the<br />

stampeders whose dreams led them to the<br />

Yukon. Explore the historic district on foot or<br />

by streetcar. Consider going on one of the<br />

optional tours, like the Skagway<br />

Extravaganza which includes panning for<br />

gold and the rousing Soapy Smith Show, or a<br />

visit to The Klondike National Historical Park<br />

which commemorates the place where the<br />

prospectors first arrived, gathered their<br />

Route to find fortune in the gold fields. You<br />

can follow their lead aboard the vintage<br />

White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad (highly<br />

recommended) or browse the shops and<br />

saloons in town.<br />

Juneau. Step back in time to the spot<br />

where Joe Juneau and Dick Harris found<br />

"streaks running through the rocks and little<br />

lumps as large as peas or beans." See relics<br />

of the gold mines that brought wealth to the<br />

town even before the Klondike gold rush. An<br />

optional excursion will be offered to see the<br />

amazing Mendenhall Glacier.<br />

KetchiKan. Southeast Alaska's "first city"<br />

is as picturesque as they come. Ketchikan is<br />

built on pilings out over the water. Stroll<br />

down historic Creek Street to Dolly's House,<br />

or venture outside town to see a forest of<br />

hand-carved totem poles. This is also your<br />

gateway to Misty Fjords National Monument<br />

via floatplane.<br />

at sea. At this point a day at sea will be<br />

most welcome.<br />

VancouVer, Bc. This morning we<br />

disembark our ship in Vancouver and<br />

proceed on a tour of this beautiful city,<br />

including Stanley Park, Gastown, Chinatown<br />

and more. Dinner and overnight in a centrally<br />

located hotel.<br />

hoMe. After breakfast we transfer to the<br />

Vancouver airport for our flight home.<br />
