The Environmental Management System (EMS) is the tool used to apply the
environmental policy implemented by the company to curb the environmental
impact of its activities. Compliant with the main international requirements
its businesses and is structured around three levels of responsibility (company,
divisions and business units) while seeking to mobilize all employees around shared
environmental improvement objectives. An Environmental Management
Committee brings together representatives of the corporate and divisional
Environmental Departments. The committee oversees the deployment and
running of the EMS, works to make sure that information and best practices are
shared between divisions, and ensures consistency is achieved with respect to
to be met by the end of 2008: deploy the EMS in 80% of relevant activities (1) and
carry out environmental audits in all of its priority facilities (2) . At December 31,
2007, the EMS had been rolled out in 75% of relevant activities and environmental
audits had been carried out at 89% of priority facilities. Drawing on these results,
the company is drafting its next environmental management plan. It is studying
how the scope of relevant activities for the rollout of an EMS could be widened,
as well as the scope of priority facilities in which environmental audits are to be
carried out. New targets for the period 2009-2011 will be set in 2008.
