Veolia Energy (Dalkia) again recorded double-digit
growth between 2006 and 2007. Revenue rose 12.7%
to €6.9 billion and the division continued its vigorous
external growth.

Dalkia’s positioning is underpinned
by its two main areas of expertise –
its original expertise as an operator
off ering performance guarantees and
that of a designer of high-performance
systems. Building on that expertise,
Dalkia is now positioning itself as
an integrator of tomorrow’s energy
solutions. Its job is to take responsibility
for energy management at its clients’
sites, while guaranteeing to optimize
both consumption and the
environmental impacts. Dalkia’s goal
is to be a crucial player in the
development of innovative energy
solutions that will reduce polluting
and greenhouse gas emissions.

Energy and environmental
optimization
The reality of climate change has been
fi rmly established. There are two other
planetary challenges as well: growing
urbanization and the increasing scarcity
of fossil fuels, which is causing their
prices to rise.
Dalkia, which manages more than
100,000 energy systems, is placed at the
point where these three challenges
converge. The division works very closely
with its clients, within their energy
systems and buildings, and in the heart
of cities, to purchase, transform and
optimize energy. Its activities range from
defi ning needs to upgrading and
operating equipment and systems.
Whenever possible, Dalkia employs
solutions based on renewable energy
sources. The gains made in both energy
and environmental performance by
working with Dalkia enable clients to
take advantage of the opportunities
associated with managing CO2 emission
quotas and energy saving certifi cates.
Dalkia’s model reinforced
Dalkia is continuing to expand in Central
and Eastern Europe. It acquired EKO
(the Kolin heating network) in the Czech
Republic, and Pannonpower and Sinesco
in Hungary. The division set up in Bulgaria
through the acquisition of the district
heating company in Varna, the country’s
third-largest city. In the United Kingdom
and Ireland, its business in energy
management continued to grow, with
the acquisition of cogeneration systems.
Similar developments took place in Latin
America, where energy services are
provided as well as management of
shopping malls and hospitals.
Veolia Energy became a major operator
in the United States by acquiring
Thermal North America Inc., that
country’s leading manager of heating
and cooling networks. It is also active in
China, where it manages two large
heating networks, in Jiamusi and Harbin.
