Heating and cooling networks
for all climates
These systems off er the advantage of
a choice of fuels and proven effi ciency.
In China, the division made a striking
breakthrough in heating networks.
In addition to the Jiamusi concession
contract, it took over the Harbin network
being built in the far north of the
country, where temperatures reach
–24 °C in January. The system will serve
more than 17 million square meters of
buildings in an area covering 52 square
kilometers.
In Central and Eastern Europe, where this
type of system is widely used, Dalkia
operates some very large district heating
networks. The division is expanding its
networks in Poznan and Lodz, which are
the biggest in Poland. At the beginning of
2008, Dalkia also bought Praterm, which
manages 260 kilometers of network in
around 20 medium-sized Polish cities.
In Slovakia it took over the municipal
network in Lucenec and set up in Bulgaria
by acquiring the company operating the
32-km Varna network. This system has two
boiler plants (124 MWth) and satisfi es 10%
of the heating needs of Bulgaria’s thirdlargest
city. Cooling networks are of
particular interest in the Middle East. In
Bahrain, Dalkia is to build cooling plants
and networks and will operate them for
twenty-fi ve years.
More services for healthcare
institutions
Other than managing technical services,
Dalkia has extended its off er to cover all
medical support services. Its Sterience
subsidiary takes care of sterilizing
instruments for healthcare institutions.
For the Riuniti hospitals in Trieste, Italy,
Dalkia is in charge of building maintenance,
technical systems management and fuel
supply for the standby generators. It
provides the same services for six health
authorities in Cagliari.
In South Korea, the division won
contracts with the Soonchunhyang

teaching hospital and two hospitals in
Seoul. It is also beginning to develop this
business in Latin America, where it
delivers services to one of Brazil’s biggest
hospitals, the Santa Casa. In Mexico, the
division is a member of a consortium
that won the Ciudad Vitoria publicprivate
partnership (PPP) contract,
including energy management with
performance guarantees. In Portugal,
under another PPP, the Centro de
Medicina de Reabilitação do Sul hospital
awarded it a contract for technical
building management. In Sweden, the
Östergötland region outsourced
multitechnical maintenance to Dalkia
for its 3 hospitals and 42 dispensaries.
In France, Dalkia will set up a wood-fi red
boiler plant covering 66% of heating
needs at the Limoges teaching hospital.
In Belgium, the Erasme hospital in
Anderlecht awarded Dalkia a technical
management contract, including
management of the wastewater
treatment plant, which is provided by
Veolia Water. The contract includes
energy saving guarantees.
Environmental quality for the tertiary
and industrial sectors
Dalkia won the comprehensive building
management contract for Société
Générale’s HQE Granite tower in the La
Défense business quarter of Paris,
France. In Brazil, the division will provide
comprehensive management, including
energy, for fi ve university campuses in
Rio de Janeiro and will also manage
energy for fi ve shopping malls.
For industrial companies, Dalkia provides
its expertise in energy management and
CO2 emissions quota trading. In Sweden,
the division is to build and maintain
a 16 MW wood-fi red boiler for Setra, the
country’s leading timber producer, under
a 15-year energy effi ciency contract.
In Chile, Dalkia manages the energy
utilities of Ralun, a food processing and
preparation specialist, and is to build an
11 MWe wood-fi red cogeneration facility
for the chipboard manufacturer, Masisa.

Dalkia is increasingly using biomass in its heating systems. For example, the division manages the biggest biomass
power plant in Hungary. Built in 2004, the 50 MWe plant is Dalkia’s biggest wood-fi red facility and one of the largest
in Central Europe. The plant feeds Hungary’s second largest heating network and satisfies the heating needs of
30,000 homes.
