Veolia Transport saw a year of strong growth <strong>in</strong> France,<br />

where revenue <strong>in</strong>creased nearly 10%, as well as <strong>in</strong><br />

its <strong>in</strong>ternational markets, where it ga<strong>in</strong>ed close to 15%.<br />

After its major acquisitions of SNCM <strong>in</strong> France and<br />

SuperShuttle <strong>in</strong> the United States, the division is focus<strong>in</strong>g<br />

on consolidat<strong>in</strong>g its positions.<br />

Grow<strong>in</strong>g environmental concerns<br />

and the soar<strong>in</strong>g price of oil have made<br />

transportation a bigger issue <strong>in</strong> public<br />

policy than ever before. Public<br />

authorities and <strong>in</strong>dividuals are tak<strong>in</strong>g<br />

another look at transportation practices,<br />

particularly <strong>in</strong> cities, as well as personal<br />

and community behavior.<br />

Major <strong>in</strong>ternational <strong>in</strong>itiatives, such as<br />

the UN conference on climate change<br />

by 2020 should account for 10% of its<br />

freight transportation solutions that<br />

will meet the European Union’s target<br />

for 2020 of reduc<strong>in</strong>g greenhouse gas<br />

emissions 20% from their 1990 level.
