Around the world, Veolia Environmental
Services’ teams design and implement
tailor-made services that enable
its clients, whether public authorities
or industrial companies, to manage
their waste in strict compliance with
national and international regulations.
The leading private waste management
operator in the United Kingdom,
the division has made its mark in the
booming market for PFI contracts.
Its fourth contract, signed for
twenty-seven years, covers integrated
management of municipal waste
in four districts of Shropshire. It includes
construction of a waste-to-energy plant,
a composting center and two integrated
waste management facilities with
waste transfer stations and household
recycling centers. The goal is to recycle
50% of waste by 2012.
In Mataro, Spain, Veolia Environmental
Services is to build and operate a
waste-to-energy plant to deal with the
waste from 27 districts in the Maresme
area. A biological treatment facility
that will digest, recover and stabilize
organic waste will be added to the plant.
In China, the division signed a 30-year
concession contract with the Foshan

municipality to build and operate
a medical waste incineration facility.
The city of Jiujiang awarded it a build
and operate contract for the household
waste landfi ll facility, and for processing
sludge from the wastewater treatment
plant.
Meeting the requirements
of each industrial company
In the United States, Veolia Environmental
Services signed a 10-year contract with
the Dow Corning chemical company’s
Midland plant to convert the plant’s
reusable acid and gas waste.
In Australia, the division took over waste
management at more than 770 of
Coles Myer’s sites as well as a number
of services for Queensland Alumina,
which operates the world’s biggest
aluminum refi nery, and for BHP Billiton
Ravensthorpe Nickel Operations,
the country’s biggest nickel mine.
In France, Veolia Environmental
Services obtained a three-year extension
of the contract it fi rst signed ten years
ago with the automaker Renault.
It covers 20 sites in France and services
in non-hazardous and hazardous waste
management, metals trading, industrial
and technical cleaning, tertiary cleaning
and pipe systems maintenance.

Veolia Environmental Services has contributed to the global public debate by putting forward seven proposals for a
responsible approach to waste management, accompanied by tangible actions to improve policies and practices. The
division has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through Veolia Environmental Services North America
Corp.’s (VESNA) membership in the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX). Its eff orts in behalf of the environment have been
awarded: Xi’an Jiangcungou and Nanjing Shuige, its two Chinese biogas recovery sites, were ranked fi rst and second in
the Top 10 Bluesky Ranking of the Waste Landfi ll Gas Power Plant, organized by the United Nations and China’s National
Development and Reform Commission.
