Sarp Industries: story of a pioneer
The Sarp Industries story began in 1975, when a handful of
visionaries decided to work together to protect water resources
by treating waste that was not biodegradable or that could be
toxic for the environment. Over the years, the company set up
hazardous-waste treatment activities and developed the associated
techniques, including physical-chemical processes and specialized
incineration. Its clients were mainly big companies that generated
large amounts of liquid and solid waste. In the 1990s,
Sarp Industries, which by then had become a global benchmark
in its industry, began exporting its expertise to countries faced
with environmental issues associated with industrialization.
During this period, new solutions were devised for smaller
companies generating smaller amounts of waste with more
technically complicated and very diverse characteristics.
Sarp Industries tackled the problem by concentrating the polluting
elements in order to neutralize them better. Sarp Industries is now
developing new treatment processes, based mainly on recovery,
viewing waste as a potential source of secondary raw materials:
metals, plastics, solvents, hydrocarbons, biofuels, etc.
This fundamental change also requires more work on expanding
the company’s expertise in the wide diversity of sources of
hazardous wastes, in particular household hazardous waste,
which is a major challenge for the 21st century. Ever the pioneer,
Sarp Industries is continuing to anticipate macroeconomic changes
to secure its position in a rapidly growing market and remain
the benchmark for a fi eld in which it has created the deontology,
culture and practices.
