Bus service, our core business
Veolia Transport is one of the world’s
leading private operators of bus routes.
In France, it operates systems in about
60 metropolitan areas outside of Paris, and
is the number one private operator in the
Paris suburbs. In 2007, its subsidiary
TRA was awarded a contract to operate
the 27 routes of the Seine-Saint-Denis
département’s system. Its bid was singled
out for its proposed innovations, measures
to combat fare evasion, quality of service,
accident prevention and improvement
plans. In Belgium, 17 regional contracts,
involving 300 employees for 236 vehicles,
were renewed. In the United States, the
contract for the management of the
Las Vegas system was also renewed.
We also made inroads in airport bus
service, with our acquisition of People
Travel Group, in Sweden, which serves
two ports and seven airports.
Growth in commuter
and regional rail transportation
Veolia Transport is rolling out regional
and commuter rail services in many
countries. In the United States, the
division began operating Tri-Rail,
a shuttle service between Miami
International Airport and West Palm
Beach. It was the fourth contract of this
type for the company, after Los Angeles
(Metrolink), Oceanside (Sprinter) and
Boston, which was renewed in 2007.
Every day, 150,000 people travel on the
Boston commuter network, with its
600 km of track and 125 stations.
Another renewal: the commuter trains
in Auckland, New Zealand.
The metro: another success in Asia
Veolia Transport, which operates
the metro in Stockholm, Sweden
(800,000 passengers per day),
has entered the South Korean market.
The division will bring Line 9 of the Seoul
metro into service and begin operating
it in 2009. It will recruit and train
550 people. 2009 will also mark the start
of its operation of the fi rst metro line
in Mumbai, India.
A player in sustainable development
New ferry activities
Veolia Transport operates ferries in
Europe. In 2007, the Morbihan
departmental council awarded it a
seven-year contract to serve the islands
of Groix, Houat, Hoëdic and Belle-Ile-en-
Mer. With 1.6 million passengers per
year, this is the biggest public ferry
service in France after service to Corsica.
Transportation on demand continues
to grow and diversify
Veolia Transport’s transportation-ondemand
(TOD) business continues to grow,
with close to 70 of these contracts in France
and the renewal of the PZN contract
in the Netherlands, its biggest in TOD.
With SuperShuttle in the United States,
the division off ers people the possibility of
sharing a vehicle to make the trip between
their home or hotel and the airport. In 2007,
Nashville became the 22nd city to welcome
the SuperShuttle service.
Rail freight for companies gaining
ground
Having brought a fi rst train, with a capacity
of 100,000 to 170,000 metric tons per year,
into service for Lafarge Ciments, Veolia
Cargo has introduced a second, this time
between Dunkirk and Le Havre. By reducing
truck traffi c and the associated CO2 emissions, combined rail transportation
off ers an economical and ecological
solution that Veolia Cargo is expanding
in Germany and starting up in Italy
and Belgium.

Link (a joint subsidiary with CMA CGM),
launched fi ve shuttles from the Dourges
multimodal center (road-rail-water)
in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region,
to Le Havre and Lyons, in France;
Mannheim, in Germany; and Zeebrugge
and Antwerp, in Belgium.

Veolia Transport is the only mobility operator to have adopted an Environmental Management System. The “journey
eco-effi ciency indicator” established in 2007 evaluates the greenhouse gas emissions avoided by the division in 2007
compared with private cars at 3.7 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent. The evaluation was based on 92%
of the trips and 80% of the kilometers covered by Veolia Transport during the year.
