CWM Tool Task Category Definitions<br />

PATIENT<br />

• In patient room alone<br />

PATIENT INTERACTIVE<br />

• In patient room with at least one other person i.e. visitor, doctor, other nurse.<br />

NON-INTERACTIVE<br />

• Any task done along<br />

SOCIAL<br />

• Any interaction that is not work-related<br />

o EXCEPTION: Venting about work-related experience, such as<br />

complaining or expressing frustration<br />

WORK INTERACTIVE<br />

1. Administrative<br />

� Any activity which relates to the functioning <strong>of</strong> the ward in general,<br />

including organization <strong>of</strong> staff <strong>and</strong> resources, i.e. staff meetings, bed<br />

allocation, staff coordination, scheduling<br />

2. Being Taught<br />

� Actively being taught new skills or information; initiated deliberately by<br />

other staff member.<br />

3. Seeking Assistance<br />

� Seeking assistance with procedures, equipment, data entry, locating people<br />

or items<br />

o NOTE: Does not refer to lack <strong>of</strong> skill or knowledge<br />

4. Seeking Advice<br />

� Seeking advice or guidance when there is a lack <strong>of</strong> skill or clinical<br />

knowledge<br />

o EXAMPLE: Asking how to do a procedure or administer a<br />

medication<br />

5. Discussing Patient Care<br />

� Discussing information with another caregiver or visitor regarding patient<br />

status or care plan<br />

6. Providing Assistance<br />

� Providing assistance with procedures, equipment, data entry, locating<br />

people or items.<br />

o NOTE: Does not refer to lack <strong>of</strong> skill or knowledge<br />
