died in June, 1648 ; and his widow, in 1651,<br />

Gordon <strong>of</strong> Glenbucket. <strong>The</strong> issue <strong>of</strong> Alexander <strong>Burnett</strong> and<br />

Jean Arbuthnot were three sons and two daughters, each<br />

(except the eldest son) provided for by their grandfather, Sir<br />

Thomas, to the extent <strong>of</strong> 40,000 marks, viz. :<br />

1. Sir ALEXANDER, afterwards 2nd Baronet.<br />

2. THOMAS, designed " in Pittenkeirie," afterwards had Sauchen<br />

in wadset from his uncle from 1668 to 1672 ; was made an<br />

honorary burgess <strong>of</strong> Aberdeen, 1678; and in 1688, as "Thomas<br />

<strong>Burnett</strong> <strong>of</strong> Clerkseat," subscribed 20 to the new buildings <strong>of</strong><br />

King's College (Fasti Aberd., p. 554). He died <strong>with</strong>out issue,<br />

and his nephew, Sir Thomas <strong>Burnett</strong>, was served heir in<br />

general to him on 24th March, 1691.<br />

3. Mr. ROBERT, at King's College in 1664, where he graduated,<br />

1668. In 1674 he was made an honorary burgess <strong>of</strong> Aber-<br />

deen ; and in 1675 he purchased Glenbervie from his father's<br />

cousin-german, Robert, eldest son <strong>of</strong> Sir William Douglas,<br />

Bart, (to whom Glenbervie had been conveyed by his father),<br />

and a few years afterwards married Katherine, daughter <strong>of</strong> this<br />

same Sir William Douglas (by Janet, daughter <strong>of</strong> Alexander<br />

Irvine <strong>of</strong> Drum). On the death <strong>of</strong> her brother, Sir Robert<br />

Douglas, at Sternkirk in 1692, Katherine became heir <strong>of</strong> line<br />

<strong>of</strong> that branch <strong>of</strong> the Angus <strong>family</strong>. Mr. Robert died in<br />

1699, having had by Katherine Douglas<br />

three sons and two<br />

daughters.* His eldest son, Thomas <strong>Burnett</strong> <strong>of</strong> Glenbervie,<br />

married, 1701, Agnes, second daughter and co-heir <strong>of</strong> Mr.<br />

Robert Burnet <strong>of</strong> Cowtoun, " tutor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Leys</strong> " ; and died,<br />

January, 1712, leaving two children under age, a son, Thomas,<br />

who died shortly afterwards, and a daughter, Katherine, who<br />

married, circa 1728, George Gordon <strong>of</strong> Buckie. When a minor,<br />

married, I7th December, 1724, Elizabeth Dunbar (according to the Montrose parish register,<br />

which also contains the record <strong>of</strong> the baptism <strong>of</strong> the following children : Elizabeth, 28th<br />

Si-pu-inlx.-r, 1725; Margaret, $th January, 1727; William, i6th June, 1729; Jean, 26th<br />

December. 1729; Mary, 31*1 October, 1731 ; and Christian, 2Qth May, 1733). 4' Margaret,<br />
