These recommendations, principles and illustrations show the problems and potentials of harmonising and integrating different data models into global data models to enable data provision within national and international SDIs. First the proposed integrated model formally defines how concepts in one dataset relate to concepts in another dataset. In a future step the results of this study can be further developed to move towards ‘collect data once, maintain it at several domain databases, and use it multiple times’.
