78 APPLICATIONS
We at Pure-Flo Solutions Group believe in customer
satisfaction through a total quality approach in
meeting our business objectives. Our strategy is
continuous improvement through the empowerment
of our people to satisfy our customers.
Compliance with FDA, 3A and USDA requirements make
the Pure-Flo ® Diaphragm Valve ideally suited for the
following markets:
• Pharmaceuticals
• Bioprocessing
• Parenteral
• Filtration
• Cosmetics
• Dairy
• Food
• Meat & Poultry
• Beverage
• Breweries
• Wineries
The Diaphragm Valve is the workhorse of the Pharmaceutical
and Bioprocessing Industries for the following reasons:
Bonnet Isolation: The diaphragm isolates the working parts
of the valve from process fluids.
Streamlined Fluid Passage: The smooth contoured body,
streamlined flow path, and high quality interior surface prevents
accumulation of process fluids or contaminants.
Minimal Contact Surface: The process contact surfaces
(i.e. body and diaphragm) are minimal, enhancing the ease
of cleaning and sterilization.
Positive Closure: The resiliant diaphragm bead in contact
with the metal weir assures positive closure.
Ideal for CIP and SIP: Clean-in-place and steam-in-place
operations may be performed in line without valve disassembly
or operation.
In-Line Maintenance: The top entry design allows for in-line
maintenance.
PHARMACEUTICAL
For superior performance on applications where protection
against product contamination is paramount, the Pure-Flo
Diaphragm Valve is the answer. An unobstructed flow path
helps to prevent the accumulation of particles on interior surfaces
which may encourage bacterial growth. Most commonly
used on WFI (water for injection) lines, the Pure-Flo Diaphragm
Valve can also be used on penicillin, blood plasmas, and a full
scope of other vital pharmaceutical applications.
Sterilization: The Pure-Flo Diaphragm has performed exceedingly
well in applications where steam sterilization is required
to maintain the sterile integrity of a system. One such application
is a batch WFI process loop. The system is typically subjected
to clean steam sterilization utilizing 15–35 PSI (1–2,4 bar)
saturated steam for a period of 45 minutes to 1 hour. WFI is
then batched and circulated at elevated temperatures (i.e.,
180°F, 82°C). Sterilization occurs between batches, and frequently
is done twice a day. Our Pure-Flo grade TM and R-2
PTFE Diaphragms have performed very well on this type of
application. Due to
outstanding performance, the Pure-Flo Diaphragm Valve has
become the standard on WFI process systems for most major
pharmaceuticals. It is suggested that diaphragms be inspected
for wear after 1 year. In critical process areas, we recommend
replacing the diaphragms on a yearly basis.
In addition to steam-in-place (SIP) requirements, the Pure-Flo
product line can also be provided with various options for
autoclave applications.
Cleaning and Washdowns: Due to its smooth, streamlined
fluid path design, the Pure-Flo product line is ideal for clean-inplace
(CIP) applications, without operating or disassembly of
the valve.
In a washdown environment, the Pure-Flo product line is provided
with “O” ring seals to prevent washdown fluids from
migrating into the bonnet assembly. Bonnet assemblies can be
provided in a Thermoplastic PAS or with a Nylon 11 or PVDF
coating which are all ideal for caustic, alcohol or detergent
washdowns.
BIOPROCESSING
Fermentation process technology has been employed to produce
such substances as pharmaceutical grade compounds,
single-cell protein, monoclonal antibodies, food grade enzymes
and growth hormones. The Pure-Flo Diaphragm Valve is ideally
suited for fermentation process systems. Areas of application
are as follows:
Sterile:
• Inoculant Vessel
• Filtration
• Inoculant Transfer Lines
• Solvent Modification
• Fermentation Vessel
• Purification
Sanitary/Hygienic:
• Downstream Processing
• Centrification
• Micro Filtration
• Ultra Filtration
Utilities:
• Air
• Oil
• Substrate
• Caustic
