HOMOGENEOUS UNITS/GROUPS A group of people with a similar social trademark, which necessarily bonds them together as a whole. INSTRUMENT OF REGENERATION The Scriptures are the instrument of regeneration, i.e. the tool used by the Holy Spirit to produce new life in the believer. LITURGICAL CHURCH A unique worship style paradigm for church ministry which seeks to draw from a rich tradition of historic expressions of worship including ancient hymns, creeds and prayers. Liturgy comes from latrevo which means "to serve or minister." In a liturgical church God is the center of worship and worshippers minister to Him, not primarily themselves. Liturgical churches are most often found among the main-line Protestant denominations. PEOPLE MOVEMENT Results from the joint decision of a number of individuals all from the same people group, which enable(s) them to become Christian without social dislocation, while remaining in full contact with their non-Christian relatives, thus enabling other segments of that people group, across the years, to come to similar decisions and form Christian churches made up primarily of members of that people group. PROPHECY, GIFT OF Prophecy is communicating and applying biblical truth to a specific situation or circumstance. An individual "speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men" (1 Cor. 14:3) through exercising this gift. Also, this area of giftedness appears to involve some measure of the enabling gift of faith (Rom. 12:6). Those gifted in this area are usually able to discern problems and apply appropriate biblical principles to help alleviate the problems. RECEPTIVE PEOPLE Those who are positive toward the gospel message as a result of social dislocation, personal crisis, or internal working of the Holy Spirit. They are open to hearing and obeying the gospel of Jesus Christ. REDEMPTION <strong>AN</strong>D LIFT A phenomenon which occurs when a person or group becomes a Christian and thereby is lifted out of their former environment and separated from it in social and economic respects. This causes a gap between the new Christian and their unsaved friends.
RENEWAL CHURCH A unique worship style paradigmn for church ministry usually characterized by informality in worship and the wide use of contemporary praise choruses in their worship services with a view of reviving the worshipper. The renewal church believes worship is a twoway street. When God is worshipped, His presence will enter the worship service and in the presence of God, the needs of the worshipper are met. REVIVAL An evangelical revival is an extraordinary work of God in which Christians tend to repent of their sins as they become intensely aware of His presence in their midst and manifest a positive response to God in renewed obedience to the known will of God, resulting in both a deepening of their individual and corporate experience with God and an increased concern for the spiritual welfare of both themselves and others within their community. The popular description of revival is, "God pouring out Himself on His people." Revival is an experience that is taught in Scripture and has a historical precedent in the Christian Church. It is a state of spiritual enthusiasm or excitement for Christ. Yet the experience of revival is not a continuing experience. The normal church, no matter how spiritual, tends to need a revival of interest, a revival of soulwinning, or a revival of believers. Revival is a reurn to one's original Christian experience, or a return to original Christianity as found in the book of Acts. SERVING, GIFT OF Serving is discerning and meeting the spiritual and physical needs of individuals. Those gifted in this ministry are supportive of others and concerned with helping them in any way possible. They usually enjoy manual tasks. SHEPHERDING, GIFT OF Shepherding is compassionately caring for others in your sphere of influence through providing spiritual guidance, nourishment, and protection from potentially destructive individuals or influences. Those who have this gift readily express their concern for others and are often looked to for spiritual counsel and guidance. SHOWING MERCY, GIFT OF Showing mercy is discovering emotionally stressed and distressed individuals and ministering to their emotional needs. Mercy-showers express sympathy, empathy, and spiritual ministry to help alleviate the inner pain that is causing a person's dysfunctional emotional response. Those gifted in showing mercy tend to be drawn toward hurting people and are somewhat effective in helping others rebuild their lives.
