When Paul addressed the Corinthians on the subject, he used five different Greek words
to describe the nature of spiritual gifts (1 Cor. 12:1-7). First, he used the word pneumatikon
which is translated "spiritual" (1 Cor. 12:1). This adjective describes the character of these gifts
as spiritual. Next, he used the word charismata which is translated "gifts" (1 Cor. 12:4). This
term emphasizes gifts as God's free and gracious gifts. The word diakonia is the third term used
to describe gifts. This word is translated "ministries" (1 Cor. 12:5) and reveals gifts as
opportunities for ministry. Fourth, the word energema, translated "activities" (1 Cor. 12:6),
suggests that gifts are an endowment of God's power or energy. Finally, the word phanerosis,
translated "manifestation" (1 Cor. 12:7), means that gifts are evidence of God working through
us.
When the various biblical lists of spiritual gifts are examined, there appear to be three
kinds of spiritual gifts. First are the miraculous gifts such as toungues and healing. Then there
are four enabling gifts which each Christian appears to have to some degree (discernment, faith,
knowledge and wisdom). These gifts enhance the third group of spiritual gifts, the task-oriented
gifts. Task-oriented gifts are our tools for effectiveness as part of the ministry team and include
evangelism, prophecy, teaching, exhortation, shepherding, showing mercy, serving, giving and
administration.
SUPER CHURCH
Churches which have demonstrated a strong desire and ability to growth, that have many
agencies for growth (synergistic approach to evangelism), that are located on a large church
campus, and that have a varied staff of professionals. Super churches usually number in the
thousands.
TEACHING, GIFT OF
Teaching is commmunication biblical principles in the power of the Holy Spirit to others
and demonstrating the relevance of those principles to the specific needs represented. Those
gifted in the area of teaching tend to be dilligent students of the Scripture, who have accumulated
a thorough understanding of biblical principles as a result of their consistent study habits.
WINNABLE PEOPLE
WORSHIP
Those who are considered receptive to the gospel; those who will respond.
Worship is a face-to-face encounter with the living God based on a regeneration
experience, prompted by the Holy Spirit, and resulting in the exhaltation of God's glory. Simply
speaking, worship is giving the worthship to God that He deserves because He is God.
Therefore, worship should be an emotional intellectual, and volitional response to God. Because
